Orthevielle (from the latin word "orthus" meaning garden, and "villa" - estate or house) was the political seat of the first family of Viscounts of Orthe, on an oppidum, before the château d'Aspremont was built in Peyrehorade.

The centre, where the main monuments are located including the Gothic church, the wash house and the shaded fountain, overlooking a fertile plain stretching all the way to the Adour river. These Barthes are now mostly occupied by kiwi orchards.
